Worldwide, the use, possession and sale of cannabis is illegal. However some countries went on to allow the use of cannabis for medical, industrial or recreational purposes.

There have been high tensions in five states in the U.S.A which voted to decide whether to end or no the cannabis prohibition. Most of the people eagerly waited for the results, to see which states will break up the prohibition on cannabis.

The five states that had a referendum in terms of the regulation of cannabis sativa were Massachusetts, Maine, Arizona, Nevada and California.

In Massachusetts, according to the Associated Press and other sources, 54% of the people supported the decision.

In Maine, the recreational marijuana was officially approved with a final count within 3,000 votes.

In Arizona, an official No was stated and the recreational cannabis has not passed this year.

In California, was conducted one of the most controversial election of recreational cannabis. There was an official approval of the recreational cannabis.

The next couple of years are not promising for the approval of the recreational use of cannabis in Arizona. However, in 2010, the state allowed the access to medical marijuana patients.

This medicinal use of cannabis is allowed in North Dakota, Florida, Montana and Arkansas. There are plenty of other countries that do not allow the use of medicinal cannabis.

California, Maine, Nevada and Massachusetts will join Alaska, Oregon, Colorado, Washington and the District of Columbia and will allow the use of recreational cannabis.

Cannabis remains illegal throughout the U.S. and it is not approved for prescription as medicine although great number of countries have approved and regulated its medical use.
